Yoga classes

UPDATE: YOGA CLASSES ARE ON HOLD - let Josetta know if you would like to sign up to a new round of classes, we need a critical mass to sign up

I have decided to take a break from teaching the Tuesday yoga class. Numbers have been very low since last year. I would like to re-start in Spring, unless I get a ton of people promsing to join sooner. I will have to restart it as a course next time around to make it sustainable. Meanwhile the mats are all there if other groups need them.

I am still running another gentle yoga class for trans and queer people at CliniQ, people can contact me or look at my website for more info on that or any other class. I am teaching full time, so there are lots of other opportunities for practicing with me, including some FREE classes.

I am really up for any groups contacting me for workplace yoga/conference yoga/private yoga or any other set up.

Best wishes

Josetta

Yoga teacher : Josetta Malcolm
I specialise in Ashtanga Yoga and Restorative Yoga. I gained my teaching qualification and am insured through the British Wheel of Yoga. I have been practicing for 14 years and teaching for 7.

What is Ashtanga Yoga?
Ashtanga Yoga is a fast flowing form of yoga. This is great for strength, tone and flexibility

I can tell you what the particular benefits of each pose is as we go along. Ashtanga yoga is great for getting a cardiovascular workout and to learn a set sequence you can practise at home. Ashtanga yoga increases flexibility and tone. We always focus on breathing throughout, which provides the meditative and calming elements. Yoga boosts the immune system, is calming for the nervous system and improves the digestion, circulation and overall health.

All students complete a confidential health form and anyone with health problems must check with their GP before beginning any new form of exercise. Ashtanga yoga will help most physical and mental health conditions except severe back problems and high blood pressure.

People of any age, size and ability can do Ashtanga yoga. I specialise in teaching beginners so I’m used to working with people who are wary or completely new to yoga. It does not matter how bendy anyone is and everyone will benefit from my classes. I can modify all the postures to suit individual needs and will be very gentle and teach the basics with a strong focus on safety.

What you need to bring
Your own mat if you have one, but we also have some mats if you need to borrow one. Mats are really cheap (from £6.99), but it is better if you can buy a more expensive ethical/ecological mat.

What should you wear
Students need to wear loose/comfortable clothes that they can stretch in, so most loose sports/jogging type clothes are good.

What else do you need to know
Please don’t eat a heavy meal for at least 4 hours or a light meal for at least 2 hours before class. It is not good to drink a lot just before class or to drink during a class. This is because it can be quite uncomfortable to do intense exercise after consuming food or drink (in the same way it does if you eat before going swimming). Exceptions to this are if you have a medical condition.

For People Who Menstruate
People who are on their period should not practice Ashtanga because of the postures and the way we engage our abdominal muscles. On lighter days, I can give alternative postures. Mosts other stlyes of yoga can be practiced any day of the month if you avoid certain poses.
