Common-Hair

15th November 2013 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Common Hair is a new hairdressing space which runs on the same premise of Common House – an experiment with new forms of social cooperation and a resource for radical politics. Haircutting can be an empowering and transformational experience and a way of reproducing the values of radical communities through care and continuity.

Alongside haircuts, the salon is interested in gathering stories and strategies, experiences of organising collectively and moments of personal transformation. Through the gestures of the salon’s users, we can start to map the relationships and co-operations of the building’s many activities and respective politics.

Donations are welcomed in exchange for haircuts, which will go towards building costs, and while it’s starting up, it’s advisable to email ahead to secure a haircut, otherwise drop by, see who’s about.

Check http://richardhouguez.eu/commonhair.html for ongoing mapping of the salon.

Also, please be in touch if you have suggestions, questions or propositions for the salon- especially if you are interested in cutting hair here as a one off or regularly.

Current Hairdresser in residence

Richard Houguez is a self-taught hairdresser who has cut hair as part of The Haircut Before The Party collective, with Open Barbers hairdressers Grey and Felx and with Salon du Mel among others. In August Richard arranged a Gathering of Radical Hairdressers in Edinburgh as part of DIY#10
